A vibrant and buzzy department, we teach all students from First to Fifth Year as well as English Language and Literature at A-level. We encourage students to open their minds to a range of topics and texts that are relevant to everyone’s lives.

The study of English helps students to cultivate some of the most important life skills – discussion, debate, reading, acting, describing, telling stories – skills that are just as important now as they were in Shakespeare’s time.

The Department is responsible for various events and activities throughout the year including theatre trips, Poetry Day celebrations, debating, Youth Speaks teams, creative writing, Spelling Bee teams and competitions.
