Learning Support
Godolphin provides effective learning support for all pupils, ensuring that every individual has the resources and assistance needed to thrive. Head of Learning Support, Claire Firth, and her team work closely with pupils and parents to create tailored learning programmes that address specific needs. Our Inclusive Policy ensures that pupils requiring short-term support or those with Specific Learning Differences (SpLD) receive specialist assistance throughout their education.
The Head of Learning Support collaborates closely with our Admissions Department to identify pupils with a SEND diagnosis who may require additional support when they enter the school. Parents applying for a place at Godolphin are encouraged to share any specialist or medical reports during the admissions process. This enables us to make reasonable adjustments during interviews and entrance exams, ensuring that every pupil is set up for success from the start.
When a teacher identifies a potential learning need, we arrange a consultation with the pupil and their parents before conducting an assessment with the appropriate specialist, such as an Educational Psychologist, Specialist Teacher, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist, or Vision Therapist. Following this, we implement a personalised support plan.
Pupils diagnosed with specific learning difficulties receive one-to-one tuition from our Dyslexia-trained teachers during school hours, allowing them to remain fully engaged in the core curriculum. Where possible, additional lessons are scheduled outside of core subjects - before school, at lunchtime, or after school - to minimise disruption. For those needing general learning support, a member of our team provides guidance to help them manage their studies effectively.
Support lessons take place outside the curriculum timetable and are provided at an additional cost, added to the termly bill.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)
International pupils are assessed for their English language proficiency when they apply for a place at Godolphin. This assessment focuses on grammar, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The level of EAL support varies depending on each pupil’s individual needs.
Lessons are typically delivered one-on-one, tailored to the pupil’s language requirements, and scheduled to fit within the school timetable. The focus of these sessions ranges from subject-specific support, helping pupils understand terminology and cultural references, to general English improvement and university preparation. This personalised approach ensures that every pupil develops the confidence and linguistic ability needed to excel academically and integrate fully into school life.
