Douglas House has been a long-time supporter of The Alzheimer’s Society and we have celebrated our 29th Alzheimer’s Tea Party this year. We have managed to raise an incredible £1455.60 from collections in our textile bank, selling Douglas House goods at the Christmas fair as well as the money raised by Douglas girls in the ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ fund-raising programme. The Tea Party which we put on every Spring term is a great opportunity for Douglas girls to get involved and give light entertainment by giving a short performance; this year we had many of the younger years play the piano, violin, sing and even had a poetry reading. It is then followed by tea and cake, as well as an opportunity for the girls to talk to some of the guests. We then all joined in song, singing a few of the classics including ‘Moon River’ and ‘Raindrops keep falling on my head’. This song was suitable for the inclement weather that day but it didn’t stop those who wanted to attend or help out. It was so lovely to see a large turn-out of people, and the girls who kindly volunteered to perform and have a chat, had an enjoyable time too.
