First Year's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' Workshop
On Thursday 14 March, First Year students visited the Tobacco Factory in Bristol for a morning of drama workshops based on their Shakespeare text A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Having warmed up with games designed to help bring characters to life, the students were given extracts to develop into mini performances. In the afternoon, the Firsts were joined by groups from schools all over the South West and returned to the auditorium for a performance of the play. The confusing plot was further complicated by the company's refreshing take on the play which involved innovative and thought provoking gender switches, Girl power was evident as a female Bottom had us all in stitches and a suitably mischievous feminine Puck wove her magic. Superb acting and excellent casting made this a really enjoyable and memorable performance.
