Having had additional lesson time with Upper Sixth students, in French we have been able to broaden our curriculum and have been looking at calligrams - words or pieces of text in which the design and layout of the letters creates a visual image related to the meaning of the words themselves. Maisie Molyneux, chose the topic of racism and inequality on which to base her calligram and its effect is both striking and moving.
Le racisme et L'inégalité
'Everyone is equal and there is no one who should say anything on the contrary. We must get rid of hate and violence and above all, all discrimination. There are people who suffer every day and who have suffered for many years. But the time has come to make discrimination disappear. I would like to live in a world where everyone feels safe and happy, whatever their ethnic origins. We must fight for this world.'
