The Music Scholars’ Showcase is a highlight of the first half of the Autumn Term at Godolphin. This year the concert followed a slightly different format as girls performed to each other, rather than to an invited audience of parents and friends, and each performance was filmed. We have created a YouTube video of the concert for you to enjoy.
The performers range from First Years to Upper Sixth students. Musicians were able to choose on which instrument they performed, and were able to select their own repertoire in consultation with their specialist teachers. Composers range from those of the early Baroque Era to several who are still composing today. Many genres were represented including opera, oratorio, concertos, sonatas, suites, jazz and musical theatre.
For many, this was their first opportunity to work with school accompanist Alexandra Standing. Miss Standing holds individual rehearsals to help our musicians prepare for performances, enabling them to become familiar with the piano accompaniments and to work collaboratively with a professional pianist.
We were delighted with our musicians’ performances and look forward to further performing opportunities in the second half of the Autumn Term.
