Godolphin gather for Armistice Day 2020

042 Godolphin School Remembrance Day Photo By Ash Mills

As every year, Godolphin was determined to mark Remembrance in 2020. Every year we come together as a whole school on 11th November to remember all those who died in World Wars and the conflicts since, the five Godolphin girls who gave and lost their lives in war and to pray for members of our wider Godolphin family who are on active service today.

While we had to do things differently this year, carefully distanced in bubbles stretched across Pitch One, the centre point of the lacrosse pitch and its cross forming the perfect place to set the Cross of remembrance, we felt privileged to be able to gather as a whole school, when so many Remembrance services across the country were curtailed. The bugler's call sang out from the balcony high on the Ash building, buffeted and carried with the wind in a wistful call to us and to all humanity to build a world of peace.

The final prayer seemed particularly appropriate for us all this year:

Merciful God, we offer to you the fears in us that have not yet been cast out by love: May we accept the hope you have placed in the hearts of all people, and live lives of justice, courage and mercy.

Photographs from the service can be found here.
