This year has seen the creation of an Amnesty International Society at Godolphin. We meet weekly to discuss world affairs and take part in Amnesty appeals. We have created colourful kites, sent to Downing Street to encourage consideration of women’s rights in Afghanistan during reconstruction, and written letters in support of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, a 43-year-old mother of two facing execution by stoning in Iran.
This term’s main event was organised by the girls themselves. The Sixth Form were invited to write cards to a variety of people worldwide. Over 60 were written in 50 minutes – with high hopes for more next year!
