There are a range of opportunities available for girls to get involved with Drama outside of the academic curriculum. First and Second Years can join in with our Drama Club which meets once a week. Girls can write and produce their own plays, performing to the school twice a year.
Third Years can chose to belong to their very own theatre company called BROADcast. This group stays together for the year and creates a range of provocative work based on contemporary or social issues important to the girls themselves.
Girls in the Fourth Year right through to those in the Upper Sixth (and even Old Girls) can join Portal Theatre Company, a resident theatre company based at Godolphin who creates devised and scripted performances throughout the year, with a view to taking productions into the wider community. The most recent production was based on the poetry of Sir John Betjeman. www.portaltheatre.com
There are a number of staff-led major productions through the year, with recent successes including West Side Story, The Tempest, Wyrd Sisters and The Mikado. Girls can perform or work on the backstage crew, and there are no auditions!
In addition, girls are encouraged to create their own shows, and these are often performed at our frequent Blackledge Fringe events, to rave reviews!
Speech & Drama Lessons are also available. Please follow the link for further information.
