Facilities

The Godolphin School Art & Design department is made up of four large studios.  Two are devoted to two dimensional arts, one of which contains a dedicated ICT suite.  There is a textile studio and a studio dedicated to the study of three dimensional design.

There is also a room dedicated to the teaching of the History of Art and is an audio visual support to practical lessons.

The central section of the building, the foyer, stairwell and upper landing, are used as a gallery space to display students work on the walls, in display cabinets and on purpose made plinths.

For large scale work made in wood, metal or plastic we have, by prior arrangement, access to the technology workshops where students can use specialist machinery and tools in a purpose built, safe environment.

The Art and Design Department is open and staffed until 6.45pm Monday-Thursday and 5.45pm Friday.  Activities for the lower school and non examination classes are run from 4.10pm until 6.45pm. In addition examination candidates are expected to attend evening sessions during this time to work on their studies in the individual specialist areas.

The department is open (but not necessarily staffed) over the weekend but it is available for girls to use, either in a recreational sense or for further examination study.

We encourage the participation of the wider community in the department and as such offer the studios for a range of adult classes including Life Drawing, History of Art lectures, Portraiture classes and workshops in Embroidery.
