I’m sometimes asked what exactly a School Chaplain ‘does’. At its simplest, I do what everyone else in school does, am part of the Godolphin community, but look at our school life together through the lens of faith. Godolphin has a Christian foundation and Christian values and ideals are at the heart of its way of life but the Chaplain’s role is to help everyone to flourish and grow in their time at Godolphin, whatever their beliefs and values.
We have a small Chapel, just above the Health Centre, which is open at all times and which girls are welcome to use when they need time to think or to pray or simply to be quiet. We have a regular Monday Eucharist there and girls are always welcome at this, whether or not they have been Confirmed. Anyone in the school community can leave requests for prayers in the prayer book if they would like me to share their prayers for people or situations they are worried about.
Girls may meet me at a School Service, School Prayers or at our regular Monday Eucharist in the little Chapel above the Health Centre. They may meet me in a classroom or in Confirmation preparation in the Spring term. Or they may just need someone to talk to beyond their teachers, Housemistress or family, when times are hard or a listening ear can help keep things in perspective. My door is always open.
