New Headmistress

Dear Parents

It is with great pleasure that I find myself writing to introduce myself to you as your new Headmistress from September 2010.  When the Chairman of Governors contacted me to offer me the position it was with great excitement and delight that I accepted without hesitation.

From the moment I first visited Godolphin’s website I was immediately struck by the fact that this school had ‘something!’  This was confirmed on subsequent visits when I toured the school and met with staff and pupils.  This ‘something’ is that Godolphin has a very strong sense of community and that the girls and staff who work there, are happy and immensely proud of their school.  The loyalty of the sixth form pupils who I spoke with was extremely impressive; there wasn’t even a complaint about the food which is something you hear in almost every other school you visit!  This sense of community and loyalty makes Godolphin a special place and is yet another reason why I look forward to joining it.

Now for something about myself and my family:  I am currently Deputy Head at Hereford Cathedral School and prior to that was Housemistress for 60 girls at The King’s School, Canterbury.  I am a teacher of History and History of Art; I am passionate about both subjects and my love for painting and architecture - which may account for why I enjoy living in Cathedral cities – is often a determining factor for our holiday destinations!  Sport has always provided a focus for me.  At school I was a keen hockey, lacrosse and tennis player.  I now thoroughly enjoy squash, still play tennis and spend many a Saturday supporting matches.  Although no great musician, I enjoy classical and church music and, when time permits, my husband and I go to the opera or a Cathedral concert.  I never cease to be impressed by the quality of music played by the pupils in all of the schools I have worked in and have no doubt the same will be true at Godolphin.

I am married to Iori, an Anglican priest and former teacher, and we have two delightful children, Gabriella (aged 4 ½ - I have been instructed not to forget the ½!) and Oliver (aged 20 months).  And I must not forget our much loved black Labrador, ‘Gus’, who mopped up many a tear in the boarding house, perfected the ‘paw shake’ and became an expert in stealing the sandwiches and cakes at the annual new parents’ tea party!  As a family, community life is very important to us and I know that Iori, Gabriella, Oliver and Gus will quickly become well known faces around the school.

I very much look forward to getting to know you and hope to meet you at one of the following receptions:  Thursday 11th March - Godolphin Talent Show, Friday 7th May - Year 10 Parents' Evening,  Saturday 15th May - Lower School Production and Thursday 27th May - Art Scholars.

Yours sincerely

Samantha Price
